Música & Som
Música & Som was a magazine dedicated to music, published between 1977 and 1987 with over 100 issues. It started every two weeks, but soon after it became monthly.
The band Wham was one of the biggest names in music in 1984. After a first album “fantastic” with a very reasonable acceptance, the duo has not stopped making a number of very successful singles.
In addition, George Michael‘s solo album “careless whispers” has also been a huge success.
Jonathan Richman was one of the founders of the Boston band, Modern Lovers. A few years after its genesis, the band evolved into Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers.
Richman is a subversive in search of new musical paradigms.
Early on, he cut the ties of symphonic rock and jazz-rock, which were the most common styles, and followed more marginal bands such as the Stooges or Velvet Underground.
When the punk explosion happened, he changed the musical genre and made his sound more universal. Rock is mixed with folk and even children’s songs.
In the following years the albums became more vocal, accompanied by a guitar or drums.
The Portuguese band, Ezra Pound, were already 5 years old in 1984. The elements of the collective talk about the project. Ezra Pound are not only a musical project as they embrace, or can embrace, other artistic formats.
Besides this, they have no way of classifying themselves musically as they consider themselves free from any connotation.
The Portuguese singer Lena d’Água gives her opinion about other musicians’ albums. Rolling Stones, Doors, Patti Smith, Rickie Lee Jones, or Elis Regina are some of the artists/bands that are discussed.
Chris de Burgh
Chris de Burgh has just released the album “man on the line“. With this release he starts a tour in Europe, starting in Strasbourg (France).
Música & Som magazine interviews the musician during a rehearsal before the concert in Strasbourg. In the interview the tracks of the new album, the tour and the future of the musician are discussed.
Siouxsie & The Banshees
Siouxsie & The Banshees live in Lisbon
The band Siouxsie & The Banshees gave a concert in Lisbon (Portugal) at the end of the previous year (1983). The first part was reserved for the Portuguese band Croix Saint.
