The film depicts a fictional riot in an American minesweeper, the Caine, during World War II. Strict Captain Queeg (Bogart), considering the crew lacking discipline, introduces changes and restrictions on board against the views of the rest of the officers. The captain’s measurements reach such an extreme that the crew comes to see him as a dangerous neurotic. During a storm, Queeg loses control of the ship, and the second officer relieves him of command. Queeg will later accuse him of being the instigator of the riot.
