Gina Lollobrigida
Luigia or Luigina “Gina” Lollobrigida (born 4 July 1927 in Subiaco) is an Italian actress, photographer, and sculptor. Since the mid-1940s she has appeared in seventy film and television productions, including both comedies and dramas. In the period after the Second World War, she became a sex symbol in Italian cinema, becoming known to international audiences through the historical film Fanfan, the Hussar (1952).
By the end of the 1960s, appearances followed in international cinema productions such as Trapeze, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, and Stranger Bedfellows. In 1961, Lollobrigida was named Most Popular International Actress at the Golden Globe Awards. In addition, she won Italy’s most important film awards several times with the Nastro d’Argento and David di Donatello and was awarded six Bambis in Germany. From the 1970s onwards, she increasingly worked as a photographer and sculptor and only occasionally appeared as an actress.
