Norman Maine (James Mason), a fading movie star and an alcoholic, meets Esther Blodgett (Judy Garland), a dreamy artist who wants stardom. That’s where her problems begin, as her husband can’t stand to see his defeat and Esther’s victory as an artist at the same time, which ends up leading him to drinks.
